China's Numbers

China released the results of the 2010 census and the result, China is huge. If you don't know already, China will win any numbers game when compared with any other nation. What's more interesting is to compare China to itself.

2010 National Census Results1

Total population -- 1,370,536,875 persons

Population growth -- 73,899,804 (5.84% growth from 2000)

Average size of family households -- 3.10 persons/family (3.44 persons/family in 2000)

Gender gap -- 118 male newborns for every 100 females

University graduates -- 8.9% of total population (3.6% in 2000)

Illiteracy Rate -- 4.08% (6.72% in 2000)

Urban residents -- 665,575,306 persons (458,438,213 persons in 2000)

Urban/Rural ratio -- 49.68/50.32 (The proportion of urban residents rose by 13.46% since 2000.)

Foreigners living in China -- 600,000 persons

Foreigners' country of origin -- South Korea (121,000), USA (71,500 - that's us), Japan (66,159), Myanmar (39,776 - who would have thought?), Vietnam (36,205), Canada (just shy of 20,000), France and India (around 15,000 each), Germany (a little under 14,500) and Australia (almost 13,300).
