Hello winter

We made it until December before we had to unpack the extreme winter gear this year. In Harbin, we'd make it until just before Thanksgiving. Since Monday, there's been snow on the ground and it won't be melting until spring. Since Monday, we've all had on extra layers, scarves, hats, gloves, and snow boots. Since Monday, we've needed to start leaving our apartment 30 minutes earlier to allow enough time to bundle ourselves and the kids to get outside.

This first snow of the season was preceded by a freakish ice storm that left everything covered in an inch of ice. Since then, we haven't seen the up side of freezing as the temps have dropped to the single digits for highs (that's in Fahrenheit). We can always make ourselves feel a bit better, and a little warmer, by looking up the forecast in Harbin. It's at least 15-20 degrees colder there.

I'm so thankful to live in the South.
