Starbucks, Harbin
For our date last week we had one purpose, to find Starbucks.
And we did. At least what may become a Starbucks (hopefully soon). We’re hoping by the holiday season (any one of the coming holidays would be great: Thanksgiving, Christmas, or even Chinese New Year). If the Starbucks opens while we’re still in Harbin, that will be amazing and we'll become regular patrons.
There’s been a rumor of a Starbucks coming to Harbin since last spring. That rumor had a date, June 21, 2011, as the grand opening. Most of the city team we scouring up and down Zhongyang Street in search of this mysterious rumor. Much to everyone’s disappointment the Starbucks was not to be found. Instead they drank Magic Pastry Coffee. Just as expensive, but not quite the same as Starbucks. Even though the atmosphere was a cheap knock off of Starbucks including pictures of different Starbucks roasts.
Let’s hope it opens soon. It’s so close I can smell it.
