China's National Day

Happy 62nd birthday China! To celebrate, we get seven days off from work. We (by 'we' I mean everyone in China) also agree (are told by the authorities) to teach (I mean work) on Saturday and Sunday to make up for all the time off. Even Kanyon's preschool has class on Saturday and Sunday. I don't think we'll convince Kanyon that Saturday is Thursday and Sunday is Friday.

Anyway, it's great to have a break from teaching (even if we've only taught be a month) and hang out with friends and family the whole week. Plus, it's probably the last week before winter comes and we'd better get outside now while we can and the temperature is still above freezing.

Happy birthday, China. I'm off to make some cake.

It was only two years ago when China celebrated its 60th birthday with a grand parade. For those who missed the awesomeness that was the 2009 National Day Parade in Beijing, check out the video below that capture the entire parade in 3 minutes 42 seconds.
